California has a ‘dismissal’ process in place that allows certain offenses, within certain timeframes, to be ‘dismissed’ or expunged from a record. This is not always guaranteed, and the process does in fact involve re-opening the case for consideration of dismissal. While resulting dismissals equate to no longer having such a record of offense(s) being viewable by any public entities or person(s), it is not a guarantee to withhold such information from other law enforcement agencies or those with the purpose of firearms or access to drugs.
