South Carolina

The state of South Carolina offers pre-trial intervention to first time offenders that are not involved with violent or sex-related crimes–see South Carolina Statutes § 17-22-150. After waiting three years, most motor vehicle, some gaming and fishing offenses, and even domestic violence offenses may be eligible for expungement. In this state you are only eligible for one lifetime expungement, and the action of committing a crime in the future will entangle you with trouble for your previously “expunged” crime, while the previous not being visible to the public and most prospective employers. “Conditional Discharge” offenses are often also eligible for consideration of expungement.
